| Travellers line up to check in for their flight on board a Sunwing airplane. |
- Passport and visas must not be kept in the baggage but should be handy.
- Always have with you on the airplane medications and medical devices, never left in checked baggage.
- Ideally, you should bring an MP3 player or iPod, sweets that are hard or chewing gum, and books (about one or two if you're a quick reader).
- Remember the 3-1-1 rule: if you carry on a liquid, it had to be in a 3oz container in a 1 quart bag, and 1 bag per person.
- Remember that you can not bring your own water into the airport. However, you can bring your own food. If you are looking to be cost-savvy, bring your own food. Airport merchandise is outrageously expensive, so remember that is always an option.
- Bring your frequent flyer card and show so you can get credit for your flight. Sometimes they will not honor it after you fly.
- Note that many airlines now charge a hefty fee if your checked bag weighs more than 50 pounds. When in doubt (or if you plan on doing a lot of shopping) plan on checking two bags. Many airlines will allow passengers to check two bags each without incurring an extra charge. Check the baggage policies of your airline.
- Be aware of the new regulations regarding liquid and gels. (You may need to just buy new toothpaste, hair products and all of that as soon as you find someplace that sells it.)
- Many discount airlines charge a checked-bag fee for even the first bag you check, and that fee increases with the second bag.
